Edward de Bono Charity Auction for 2 Causes in Kenya

We're delighted to be involved a charity auction for 2 good causes in Kenya
The auction is being organised by Seán Kirwan on behalf of 2 worthwhile causes operating out of Kilifi in Southern Kenya. Seán is Business Development Director with Denobi and also hosts Edward’s monthly podcast on behalf of www.debonosociety.com.
Each illustration was draw during Edward’s Key note address during at the Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit on Wednesday the 16th of September 09.

Both causes are located in the small town of Kilifi in southern Kenya.
The first is a small ‘step up’ primary school in the Kilifi town:
The school was setup due to a gap in Kenya’s school policy. Although primary education is technically free in Kenya, it comes with the condition that children have basic reading and writing skills before they start. This creates the need for parents to ensure their children attend a pre-school to give them the basic skills required. The obvious difficultly with this is that if parents cannot afford the preschool education and their kids cannot get the education that is needed. The school currently has 19 children aged between 6 and 12 years old.
John Jirani setup the school in an effort to help parents and children in the local town of Kilifi get the step that is required to put them on the education ladder.
The children come for the educational opportunity and the fact that a basic lunch is provided every day. For some children this is their only meal. The teacher and books are provided by donations from visitors to the school. A teacher cost approximately €50 per month.

The school survives on charitable donations. The money received goes to teachers’ salaries (€50 per month), equipment, basic facilities and money to help the parents pay expenses for uniforms when they are ready to go to primary school.
The second cause is the Temple Kids Acrobates:
Temple Kids are an Acrobats group working out of Kilifi. Their repertoire include incredible feats such as gymnastics, double ropes skipping ,juggling acts, limbo , balancing, contortionist and human pyramids building. These Kenyan acrobats have vast experience having performed in many forums including school, parks, circuses, theme parks. The group has a social angle helping running regular training workshops with the local youth of Kilifi.

The money raised will go towards new uniforms and equipment for the group.
The auctions will be run on Ebay here
