Denobi - we make great school websites.
Are you a Principal or a career guidance teacher looking to use the Internet to enhance your school?
The benefits of having a website designed by Denobi include:
Save Money
A website enables schools to reduce printing costs by making information like booklists and parent teacher meetings available online.
Reduce Administration Costs
Having your information online allows your Administrative Staff to focus on other areas of school business. Parents with internet access can be directed to the website when requesting information, rather than tying up valuable Administrator time.
Online Calendar - Keeping everyone up to date!
Our online calendar functionality gives staff, pupils and parents a method of keeping up to date with events and activities in the school.
Easily Updated
Denobi solutions are easy to update. Denobi provide an application similar to Microsoft Word, which allows staff to modify the website without any the need for a trained web designer.
Improve Fund Raising efforts
Use your website to promote current fund raising efforts at the school. Regular site visitors to the school can view what fund raising effort is currently underway and, if required, pay by credit card online.
Promote School Achievements
Make your school and student achievements more visible by posting them on your website, thus allowing parents the opportunity to view school achievements online.
Increase Utilisation of School Resources
Advertise the different resources available to the local community. School halls, tennis courts, astroturf pitches, and night course class space could all be promoted on your website and in turn increase revenue.
Immediate Communication
By combining the power of email and the school website you can effectively communicate to a large number of parents instantly.
What are the special benefits that Denobi bring to your school website?
Past-Pupil Area
The past-pupil area comes as part of our school pack or as a separate add on we can provide to schools with an existing website.
Allow past-pupils to rekindle old friendships and organise reunions.
Past students will have the opportunity to keep in contact safely with old friends using our past-pupil area developed by Denobi.
Invaluable resource for Career Guidance Counselor
Past-pupils have the opportunity to assist in the compilation of a Past-pupil database if they so wish. Through this, past-pupils will be encouraged to help current students through career talks, mock interviews, work experience opportunities and advice.
It's fully automated
The past-pupil area is designed to be fully automated. Once a user is registered, his/her details are posted online automatically. If he/she needs to make any changes, they simply have to login to the system and update his/her details.
There's even a "forget password" option that emails the member his/her password if it's forgotten.
Frequently asked questions regarding the past-pupil area:
How does it work?
The past-pupil area of the website allows past students to rekindle old friendships by securely listing each student's details online. A visitor to the area can search for a particular student by first name, last name, year of leaving, country, county and town.
Past-pupils can also register their details so others can see their details online.
What useful information is obtained?
The registration processes is divided into two separate sections:
- Part A: Personal details
- Part B: Details to assist in the careers education
Part A is used to allow past-pupils to contact each other. It requires information such as name, address, email, phone and year of leaving.
Part B is optional and is used to assist Career Education requesting the following information regarding:
- industry
- title / role
- organisation name
- organisation address
- interests
Would he/she allow his/her name to be included in a panel of people who could be called on to contribute an article for our Yearbook?
Would he/she be willing to help out with the Careers Programme?
If yes: Would he/she allow his/her name to be included in a panel of people who could be called on to help out in the following areas? (Please tick as appropriate)
- Career Talk to students
- Allow a student to job or shadow for a short period
- Carry out Mock Interviews in his/her broad area
- Provide Work Experience
- 1 to 1 Career Information /Advice on his/her career area
As you can see all this information would be most valuable to Career Education Counselors
Is this safe for students and how does it protect members?
Unlike many other school websites Denobi does not display any member details in the past-pupil area except name, year of finish, location and current occupation. Denobi is fully aware that although the Internet is an excellent tool for communication, we also know protective methods are required to stop misuse.
All messages are communicated through the website. The reasons for this are two fold:
- The recipient of the message never has his / her email address exposed and so eliminates spam messaging and reduces messaging abuse.
- A profanity filter is used to further reduce the likelihood of abusive emails being sent.
- Once the recipient has received the message from the website, they can then decide if they wish to reply back.
Can searches be made for particular members?
A visitor to the area can search for a particular student by first name, last name, year of leaving, country, county and town.
Can past-pupils update their details as changes are required?
Yes on registration, the past-pupil is requested to enter a password that can be used with his/her email address to update his/her details as required.
What if the past-pupils don't have internet access?
The administration area allows staff to enter and create new members easily and quickly.
What about profanity?
Given the sensitive nature of a school website it is important that profanity is blocked. A profanity filter is included that blocks the use of "bad language" on registration and when sending messages.
How does a Career Guidance Counselor use the system?
An administration panel for the past-pupil area is provided through a secure server (giving extra security). The admin area requires a username and password to login. Once successfully logged in the administrator has the following menu to choose from:
Member Listing
Allowing an administrator to edit view or delete members.
Reporting
One of the most important aspects of the past-pupil area is how its information can be used. As a career guidance Counselor you will want will want to organise talks for students, job shadowing, mock interviews, etc. In a matter of seconds you can run a report and view which past-pupils are willing to perform these activities.
Other useful reports are:
Message Activity
Number of messages sent to users in the last day, week, month, 6 months or year.
List new members who have joined in the last day, week, month, 6 months or year.
List the amount of members who have changed details in the last day, week, month, 6 months or year.
How secure is the process?
All information is secured in a MySQL database. This means that spam harvesters (programmes that collect email addresses with the intention of sending unsolicited email to these addresses) have no access to these email addresses.
The administration area of the website is placed on a secure server and uses 128bit encryption in a similar way to credit card process facilities and banking websites.
How much does this all cost?
Depending on your school's requirement Denobi can provide you with our complete website package including our excellent past-pupil system for an incredible €5,000. To purchase the past-pupil area on its own costs €2,500 and includes integration into your school's existing website.
